Follow the “Ghosts” of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen in the corridors of the Royal Opera House, Mumbai on November 26 and 27. ‘SURNAI THEATRE AND FOLK ARTS’ FOUNDATION’ and the Royal Norwegian Consulate General present Ila Arun’s adaptation of the play in Hindi as “Peechha Karti Parchayyaiyan”. It is the story of the erstwhile royal families in India, still living on their past feudal glories, clutching on to old traditions and decrepit lifestyles. The play focuses on how these outdated traditions and their repercussions come back to haunt future generations as ghosts of the past, preventing them from breaking away from these shackles perpetuated by their ancestors.

The drama unfolds within the four walls of their home as we witness the tragic breakdown of families, symbolised in the destruction of the havelis they inhabit. But yet the ghosts of the past cannot be destroyed.
